The Activity Loft - front page

The Vineries estate in Gillingham, Kent consists of 159 homes that are owned and managed by Moat and Medway Council. In the past, the estate has had challenges with anti-social behaviour and a lack of community spirit.

A grant from Moat’s Neighbourhood Fund helped to turn a previously vandalised vacant property into what residents really wanted in their neighbourhood – a place where they could meet to hold events to bring the community together.  In July 2006 the ‘Activity Loft’ community house was officially opened and ever since has become the hub of the community and surrounding area.

We were asked to provide a website solution that was powerful enough to host many pages, galleries, events and news articles, as well as being cheap to run.  At the same time, it had to be easy to learn and use, so that members of the community could take ownership of the site.

We designed & implemented the site and loaded the initial content, then held a group training session to show the staff, volunteers and some of the young members how to manage the website themselves.
